There was a time when Saas-Bahu drama used to run for years and years on the small screen. But now the scenario has changed completely. Big banner TV series too are struggling to survive for a long time on television.
There are exceptional cases of sitcoms like Taarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma on SAB TV or Yeh Rishtaa Kya Kehlata Hai and KumKum Bhagya on Star Plus and Zee TV respectively. But other than these, most of the TV shows are winding up sooner than ever.
Small screen shows are going through a bad phase now. The audience is turning towards web series, films and social media more than the Television these days.
Gone are the days when people used to wait for specific hours to watch their favorite TV shows like Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Balika Vadhu, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, Bidaai and Kumkum. These serials ran for years and years and never lost the grip on the viewers’ minds. But now Indian TV serials are failing to impress the audience.
Here are The TV Serials That Went Off Air Very Soon Due To Low Viewership And Ratings
1) Har Shaakh Pe Ullu Baitha Hai – Star Plus
Produced by Garima Productions, Har Shaakh Pe Ullu Baitha hai was a politics based sitcom that aired on Star Plus from 26th February 2018 to 7th September 2018. It was a satire based on politicians and voters relation. This was a great plot presented by Star Plus but somehow it couldn’t connect to the audience. And the show had to be pulled down within 7 months of its launch.
2) Daastan-e-Mohabbat Salim Anarkali – Colors TV
This TV serial based on an epic love story of Salim and Anarkali had a promising plot and cast. Starring Shaheer Sheikh and Sonarika Bhadoria, the serial could not impress its audience despite having a solid screenplay. It ran on Colors TV from 1st October 2018 to 4th January 2019.
3. Laado 2 – Colors TV
Laado 2 – Veerpur Ki Mardaani was a sequel of popular TV serial Na Aana Iss Des Laado that was aired on Colors TV. It starred Meghna Malik and Avika Gor in leading roles. Show’s ratings started dropping as soon as the lead character Ammaji died in the serial and Meghna Malik walked off the show. Viewers did not take this twist that well and the makers saw a huge drop in the viewership of the show and somehow it could not compete with the popular TV shows like Yeh Rishtaa Kya Kehlaata hai and KumKum Bhagya running in the same time band. It ran for 133 episodes starting from 6th November 2017 to 23rd May 2018.
4. Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka – Colors TV
Silsila is based on the complicated relations of 3 people. Sort of infidelity takes place in a happy couple’s relationship. Despite having a big banner like Sphere Origins, this serial could not impress the viewers and soon it was shifted to Voot app for streaming. It had Shakti Arora, Aditi Sharma and Drashti Dhami in the lead roles. It ran from 4th June 2018 to 23rd November 2018 on Colors TV and now the web version on Voot is showing a leap of few years (and a generation) and is titled as Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka – Season 2.
5. Bepanaah – Colors TV
Bepanaah was shifted to the web version on Voot after seeing dropping numbers of viewership of the show. It had a promising start but slowly the leaps and the twists in the story lost the interest of the audience. It starred Harshad Chopda and Jennifer Winget in the leading roles. And it ran from 19th March 2018 to 30th November 2018 on Colors TV.
These are some of the TV serials that went off air sooner than expected. We hope to see small screens winning the audience’s hearts again with some new promising shows.
